The United Nations Academic Impact will host its next “Classroom Conversation” on the role of the United Nations in the independence process of Timor-Leste on 8 October, at 11 a.m. in Room S-2727.

The International Day of Peace will be marked around the world on Sunday, 21 September. In his message for the day, the Secretary-General asks combatants to put down their arms, “so all can breathe the air of peace” and calls on people around the world to observe a minute of silence at noon.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has designated Academy Award-nominated actor and committed environmental activist, Leonardo DiCaprio, as a United Nations Messenger of Peace with a special focus on climate change.

The Journalists Programme, now called the United Nations Reham al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme, will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, beginning on Monday, 8 September.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, along with the President of the General Assembly, John Ashe, will preside over the informal meeting of the General Assembly to mark the International Day against Nuclear Tests, to be held in the Trusteeship Council Chamber from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 September.

Heads of State and Government will join leaders from business and civil society to announce new commitments and practical actions to address climate change at a Climate Summit hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 23 September.

The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, will hold an exclusive preview of the award–winning Czech drama The Good and the True on 1 August from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium.

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in partnership with the United States-based Council on Foreign Relations, will host a discussion on fracking on 16 July at 1:15 p.m. in Conference Room 4 of the North Lawn Building.
