Economic and Social Council Continues Operational Activities for Development Segment

The Economic and Social Council continues its Operational Activities for Development Segment, held 20 to 22 May at UN Headquarters, on the theme “Keeping the promise on sustainable development in times of uncertainty — The United Nations development system delivering for results”.

In the morning, the Council will hold sessions on “effective accountability:  UN system evaluation” — featuring a report of the System-wide Evaluation Office and a dialogue on recent evaluation results and management response — and on “effective accountability:  Action for the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Harassment”.

The afternoon will feature sessions on “Supporting countries in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in complex settings:  interlinkages between development and peacebuilding” and “development needs and solutions for internally displaced persons”. 

Krzysztof Szczerski (Poland), Council Vice-President, will chair the closing session, which will feature remarks by Bob Rae (Canada), Council President, and Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
