United Nations Academic Impact to Host ‘Classroom Conversation’
On Timor-Leste, at United Nations, 8 October
The United Nations Academic Impact will host its next “Classroom Conversation” on the role of the United Nations in the independence process of Timor-Leste on 8 October, at 11 a.m. in Room S-2727.
The conversation will centre on the recent book, Timor-Leste: The History and Development of Asia’s Newest Nation, by Abraham Joseph and Takako Hamaguchi, published by Lexington Books (2014). It is a study of how a small Asia-Pacific nation emerged from protracted conflict and successfully navigated a path to durable peace and sustainable development. The book also looks back at the involvement of the United Nations in the country’s independence process.
Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste José Luís Guterres will be a guest speaker. He will be joined by the two authors and Rekha Datta of Monmouth University.
“Classroom Conversations” is an initiative of the United Nations Academic Impact that connects the world’s classrooms with the United Nations through discussions on today’s major issues and global responses to them.
