United Nations Academic Impact to Launch J. Michael Adams Conversation Series on 21 October

The United Nations Academic Impact will launch the J. Michael Adams Conversation series on 21 October, with an inaugural lecture by the well-known Saudi Arabian scientist Hayat Sindi.  The event is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. in Conference Room 4.

The series, launched in the context of the seventieth anniversary commemoration of the Organization, is named for J. Michael Adams, who was pivotal in enlarging the reference to non-governmental organizations in Article 71 of the Charter to academic institutions by leading the successful effort of the first university — Fairleigh Dickinson — to obtain consultative status with the Economic and Social Council.  While President of the International Association of University Presidents, Mr. Adams contributed immensely in time, wisdom and counsel to the definition of Academic Impact, which was launched by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in November 2010.

The series envisages an annual lecture by, and subsequent conversation with, a renowned scholar who interacts with the United Nations and academic communities on a subject of global significance and interest.  Ms. Sindi will speak on “Women, Science and our Globalized World”.

Ms. Sindi is a visiting scholar at Harvard University and a Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), recognized for her efforts in promoting science education in the Middle East, especially for girls.  She is also is a co-founder and director of Diagnostics for All, a non-profit fusing biotechnology and microfluidics, dedicated to creating low-cost, easy-to-use, point-of-care diagnostics designed specifically for the 60 per cent of the developing world that lives beyond the reach of urban hospitals and medical infrastructures.

The meeting is open to all, but pre-registration is required.  Please reserve your seat by registering at  https://unai-michaeljadams.eventbrite.com.
