The Economic and Social Council concluded its 2024 coordination segment today, bringing to close two days of conversations in which Member States as well as stakeholders from different parts of the United Nations system exchanged ideas on reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and eradicating poverty through effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions.

The type of public-private partnership that enabled a moon landing and led to the invention of mobile phones and baby formula is lacking with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a keynote speaker told the Economic and Social Council today at its annual Partnership Forum, as she called for symbiotic, rather than parasitic, approaches to address major global crises./p>

The Economic and Social Council today elected two Vice-Presidents, adopted its agenda and assigned responsibilities for its 2024 session, also taking action on decisions related to a special meeting in Chile and geospatial information, while further welcoming the donation of new chairs for its Chamber by the delegation of Sweden.

The Economic and Social Council concluded its management segment today, adopting five resolutions and six decisions from its subsidiary bodies that addressed strengthening development planning for Haiti, support for Non-Self-Governing Territories and the rights of the Palestinian people in the occupied territory, as well as the protection of Palestinian women.
