The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development concluded its three-day ministerial segment today, with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration and the Forum’s procedural report.

The Security Council today heard growing calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as speakers reiterated their concern about the ongoing war’s unspeakable toll on civilians and the dwindling prospect for a two-State solution for Israel and Palestine.

In a time of unprecedented global challenges and escalating conflicts, States must commit to multilateralism to allow for the emergence of a more just, democratic and sustainable world order, the Security Council heard today in a ministerial-level open debate.

The General Assembly today adopted three texts — including a resolution in support of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States — and conducted a debate on building peace, with speakers applauding the work of the Peacebuilding Commission and calling for resources to increase its engagement.

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development convened on day two today of its three-day ministerial segment.  It heard messages from the UN Environment Assembly and held an interactive session on “Messages from the regions”, which showcased regional challenges, innovative pathways and opportunities for accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and presented transformative policies and actions for the remaining six years until the established deadline for the SDGs in 2030.

Beginning its second week of meetings, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development began its three-day ministerial segment today.

Measures to address insecurity, humanitarian crises, shrinking civic spaces and other threats must place people at the forefront and will be more effective if done collectively, the head of UN efforts in West Africa and the Sahel told the Security Council today, as he reported on the state of a region that — while notching certain successes — is grappling with profound challenges.

The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) until 15 July 2025, requesting all Haitian stakeholders to urgently establish a Provisional Electoral Council and reach an agreement on a sustainable, time-bound and commonly accepted road map for elections.

Wrapping up its first week of meetings, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development today held an interactive panel discussion on “Perspectives from major groups and other stakeholders: Partnerships for transformative and urgent actions”.

Colombia has failed to establish total peace for two and a half centuries because it did not include all its territories in its nation-building, the President of Colombia told the Security Council today, as members reiterated their support for that country’s peace process.
