GAZA FACING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

GAZA, 2 May (UNRWA) -- A humanitarian crisis is looming in the Gaza Strip as the Israeli authorities continue to block the entry of basic foodstuffs, medicines and fuel, and refuse to relax internal restrictions on the movement of all goods and personnel.

New York, 2 May –- An estimated 150 million of the world’s children are malnourished.  Nearly 11 million die before their fifth birthday. Over 120 million are still out of school.  Has the world lived up to its promises to children made at the 1990 World Summit for Children?

MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY SPECIAL SESSION ON CHILDREN


New York, 8-10 May 2002


The special session of the General Assembly on children will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 8 to 10 May.  The Building will be closed to the public during this period, and access will be restricted to those persons who are accredited and wearing a United Nations grounds pass.
