Biographical Note


NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GEORGIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Revaz Adamia, the new Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations, presented his credentials on 22 July to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Adamia held a number of positions in Georgia’s Parliament, including head of the "Citizens’ Union" faction from 2000 to 2001 and head of the Committee of Defence and Security of the Parliament of Georgia from 1995 to 2000.  From 1993 to 1994, he completed special courses at the Moscow School of Political Research of the Council of Europe.


Before becoming a Member of Parliament in 1992, Mr. Adamia held several positions in the field of biology.  In 1988, he was appointed head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at the Giorgi Eliava Institute of Microbiology and Virology.  From 1982 to 1988, he served as senior research assistant at the Institute.  He joined the Institute in 1974 with an appointment as junior research assistant.


Mr. Adamia graduated from Tbilisi University in 1974, and holds a Doctor of Natural Sciences degree.  He was born in July 1952 in Georgia.
