Lomé is set to host a pivotal gathering of West and Central African countries to review progress made and to set priorities for tackling illicit small arms and light weapons. On 19 February 2024, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo held a briefing to Member States during which the Coordinator of the Group of Experts briefed participants on the Group’s midterm report dated 30 December 2023 (S/2023/990).
In October 2023, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs called on young people between the ages of 18 and 24 from across the globe to apply for an innovative learning programme aimed at empowering them to work for disarmament in their communities.
