INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WORLD’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLE


TO BE OBSERVED ON 9 AUGUST AT UN HEADQUARTERS


Each year, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples (9 August) is observed at United Nations Headquarters with a ceremony and a cultural presentation.  This year’s observance will take place at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, 9 August, in the General Assembly Lobby (46th Street and First Avenue).

UNITED NATIONS GUIDES RECEIVE NEW UNIFORMS, DONATED BY NEW YORK-BASED LE MONTI


The United Nations is receiving a new donation of uniforms for its tour guides from Le Monti, a clothing company based in New York.  Le Monti is donating two full sets of uniforms for each of the 60 United Nations tour guides in New York over the next two years.

United Nations Population Award Ceremony


The United Nations Population Award was started in 1983 and is presented annually to individuals and institutions for their outstanding work in the field of population and in the improvement of the health and welfare of individuals.  Winners are selected by an Award Committee made up of representatives of United Nations Member States.

Olympic Torch Relay Event at United Nations Headquarters on Saturday, 19 June


On Saturday, 19 June 2004, the United Nations, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations and the City of New York, will host a special event to mark the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay and the Olympic Truce.
