UNITED NATIONS GUIDES RECEIVE NEW UNIFORMS, DONATED BY NEW YORK-BASED LE MONTI

The United Nations is receiving a new donation of uniforms for its tour guides from Le Monti, a clothing company based in New York.  Le Monti is donating two full sets of uniforms for each of the 60 United Nations tour guides in New York over the next two years.

Acknowledging the agreement between Le Monti and the United Nations Department of Public Information, Under-Secretary-General Shashi Tharoor noted that the firm "has joined a prestigious group of fashion houses and clothing companies that have supported the United Nations through the generous contribution of their skills and design, along with the products that these have given shape".

Gregory Zlotnick, owner and President of Le Monti, said that he was delighted by this partnership.  “I am a big supporter of the United Nations and I am pleased to make this gesture of support through this dedicated group of young people.”  The four-piece uniform includes a skirt, jacket, blouse and scarf for the female guides, and a suit, shirt and tie for the male guides.

Media representatives are invited to attend the signing ceremony on 27 July at 12:30 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Penthouse with a “coupe de champagne”.  There will be a short private guided tour afterwards.  Journalists who do not have UN accreditation must obtain special passes.  Please contact the Media and Accreditation Unit at tel: (212) 963-6936; fax: (212) 963-4642.

Since the tour operation began in 1952, more than 37 million visitors have toured the United Nations Headquarters.  Guided tours are conducted daily, with some exceptions (see www.un.org/tours).  During the hour-long lecture tour, guides present the United Nations’ history and structure, explain the role of the United Nations in current events, describe the unique collection of artworks on display throughout the tour route, and answer numerous questions from visitors.  The Guided Tours Unit, part of the Department of Public Information, offers tours in more than 20 languages.
