SECURITY COUNCIL SANCTIONS COMMITTEES ELECT OFFICERS FOR 1996

19960104 NEW YORK, 4 January (Department of Political Affairs) -- On 3 January the President of the Security Council, Sir John Weston (United Kingdom), convened meetings of the Council's Sanctions Committees, which are composed of all members of the Council, to elect their respective bureaus for 1996.

NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN JANUARY

19951229 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 January 1996:

Sir John Weston (United Kingdom) will succeed Sergey V. Lavrov (Russian Federation) as President of the Security Council.
