United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following consultations with the Advisory Commission of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, is pleased to announce the appointment of Filippo Grandi (Italy) as the Agency’s new Commissioner-General, effective 20 January 2010.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Bo Schack of Denmark to serve as his Deputy Special Representative in the Central African Republic. Mr. Schack will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Fidele Sarassoro of Côte d’Ivoire as his Deputy Special Representative for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he will also serve as United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced today the appointment of Rebeca Grynspan of Costa Rica as Under-Secretary-General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ms. Grynspan will replace Ad Melkert, who has been appointed the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping, have appointed Ibrahim Gambari of Nigeria as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur, with effect from 1 January 2010.

The Secretary-General has appointed Ameerah Haq of Bangladesh as his Special Representative for Timor-Leste and Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste.
