Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning Iraq Removes Two Entities from Its Sanctions List

On 13 July 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1518 (2003) approved the removal of the following entities from its List of Individuals and Entities subject to the assets freeze set out by paragraphs 19 and 23 of Security Council resolution 1483 (2003) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Secretary-General Appoints Hanna S. Tetteh of Ghana Director-General of United Nations Office at Nairobi

United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres today announced the appointment of Hanna S. Tetteh of Ghana as Director‑General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi.  She succeeds Sahle‑Work Zewde, who has been appointed as Special Representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union.

Commission on Limits of Continental Shelf to Hold Forty-Seventh Session at Headquarters, 16 July to 31 August

NEW YORK, 13 July (United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs) — The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf will hold its forty-seventh session from 16 July to 31 August 2018.  The plenary segments of the session will be held from 6 to 10 August and from 27 to 31 August.  The remainder of the session will be devoted to the technical examination of submissions at the Division’s geographic information systems laboratories and other technical facilities.

General Assembly Elects Iceland to Human Rights Council, Adopts Fourth Committee Text Endorsing 2018 Proposals of Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations

The General Assembly adopted a consensus resolution today endorsing the proposals, recommendations and conclusions of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations from its 2018 substantive session and urging Member States, the Secretariat and relevant United Nations organs to take all necessary steps to implement them.

Condemning Rise of Violence by Armed Groups in Central African Republic, Security Council Presidential Statement Urges National Reconciliation

The Security Council, strongly condemning the rise of incitement to ethnic and religious hatred and violence in the Central African Republic — as well as manipulated hostility towards the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and other international actors — today adopted a presidential statement urging armed groups to cease all forms of violence, lay down their arms and engage constructively in the country’s evolving peace process.
