The latest report issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization warns today that time is running out for the world’s forests, whose total area is shrinking every day.  Forests provide around 20 per cent of income for rural households in developing countries and fuel for cooking and heating for 1 in every 3 people around the world.

Security Council Sanctions Committee on Central African Republic Hears Briefings on Weapons, Ammunition Management

On 22 June 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic held informal consultations to consider briefings by the National Commission to Combat the Illicit Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons of Côte d’Ivoire, United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) on weapons and ammunition management in the country.

The General Assembly adopted 25 resolutions and 1 decision from its Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) today, agreeing to significant management reforms — including the creation of two new departments focused on peacebuilding and four stand-alone divisions for Africa — aimed at streamlining the Organization’s operations.

‘Just One Inch of Water’ Exhibition To Go on Show at United Nations Headquarters, 9-29 July

An opening reception for an exhibition entitled “Just One Inch of Water” will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 9 July 2018, in the Visitors’ Lobby.  The exhibition is organized on behalf of the United Nations Group of Friends on Drowning Prevention by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
