UN REQUESTS MORE FUNDS TO MEET HUMANITARIAN NEEDS IN CHAD

 


NEW YORK, 27 August (OCHA) -- The United Nations is now asking the international community for $166 million to address humanitarian needs in Chad until the end of the year.  Its initial appeal, which it launched last March, was for $54 million.  Thus far, current contributions and pledges amount to $80 million, or 48 per cent of the revised requirements.

UN Appeals for More Funds to Meet Most Urgent Humanitarian Needs in Sudan


KHARTOUM/GENEVA, 25 August (OCHA) -- The UN today warned that $434 million out of $722 million are still required to respond to Sudan’s most urgent humanitarian needs through the end of the year.

UNITED NATIONS HELPS ALLEVIATE BANGLADESH’S WORSENING FLOOD SITUATION


NEW YORK, 27 July (OCHA) -- A new Operations Coordination Room has been set up to consolidate all assessments of the situation on the ground in Bangladesh, where the flood situation is deteriorating.  The Room falls under the Disaster and Emergency Response area of Bangladesh’s Local Consultative Group, which includes such bodies as the United Nations and the World Bank.

United Nations TACKLES FOOD INSECURITY IN KENYA


NEW YORK, 22 July (OCHA) -- United Nations agencies will soon be appealing for international aid on behalf of the Kenyan Government, which has requested assistance to help overcome poor rainfall and severe crop failure.
