TSUNAMI DISASTER:  UNFPA APPEALS TO DONORS FOR $28 MILLION FOR WOMEN AND YOUTH

NEW YORK, 5 January (UNFPA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), is requesting approximately $28 million from donors to help meet urgent health, hygiene and protection needs for women and youth in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, the three countries hardest hit by last week’s catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.

UNITED NATIONS RESPONDS TO NATURAL DISASTERS IN INDIAN OCEAN COUNTRIES

ETHIOPIA, UN, HUMANITARIAN PARTNERS APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE FOR 2005

 


ADDIS ABABA, 23 December (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs) -- The Ethiopian Government, the United Nations and humanitarian partners today appealed for 387,482 tonnes of food valued at approximately $159 million for an estimated 2.2 million needy people, and $112 million of non-food assistance to meet emergency humanitarian needs in 2005.

UN SEEKS $6.4 MILLION TO HELP PHILIPPINES IN WAKE OF STORMS

 


NEW YORK, 15 December (OCHA) -- Today, the United Nations launched a flash appeal to meet the relief and emergency rehabilitation needs of those affected by four consecutive typhoons and tropical storms that left some 1,500 people dead or missing over the past few weeks.  The appeal was prepared in close consultation with the Government of the Philippines and the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.
