On 14 October, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolution 751 (1992) concerning Somalia held informal consultations to hear a briefing by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, following the submission of the report of the Emergency Relief Coordinator, pursuant to paragraph 43 of resolution 2607 (2021), on the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Somalia and on any impediments thereof.

In the Security Council’s open debate on strengthening women’s resilience and leadership as a path to peace in regions plagued by armed groups, the Deputy Secretary-General said that the international community cannot separate global peace’s perilous state from the effects of patriarchy and the silencing of women’s voices.

Angela Merkel, the former Chancellor of Germany, was announced today as the recipient of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) 2022 Nansen Refugee Award. The award is given to an individual, group or organization that has worked to protect refugees, internally displaced or stateless people.
