Security Council

The members of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2374 (2017) concerning Mali (the Committee) recalled the provisions of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali (the Agreement) calling upon the Security Council to give its full support to the Agreement, to closely monitor its implementation, and if necessary, to take measures against anyone hindering the implementation of the commitments contained therein or the realization of its objectives.

Combating terrorism and organized crime hinges on unravelling and severing the ties between these twin threats while addressing their root causes, delegates told the Security Council today.

At its 82^nd meeting, on 9 July 2019, the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict, in connection with the examination of the second report of the Secretary-General on children and armed conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic, agreed to convey the following messages through a public statement by the Chair of the Working Group:

On 21 June 2019, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1591 (2005) concerning the Sudan held joint informal consultations with the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya and the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan.

On 24 June 2019, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2374 (2017) concerning Mali held informal consultations to hear a briefing by the Coordinator of the Panel of Experts on Mali on the statements of case shared with members of the Committee.

Gustavo Meza-Cuadra (Peru), Security Council President for July, outlining the month’s programme of work at Headquarters today, said a debate on the links between terrorism and organized crime is of particular importance for his country.
