United Nations Headquarters will observe the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on Thursday, 30 May.

An Indian military peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) will receive the 2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the designation of James Swan of the United States as his Acting Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM). Mr. Swan will act as Special Representative for a temporary period following the departure of Catriona Laing of the United Kingdom, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for her dedicated service in UNSOM and Somalia at a challenging time.

NEW YORK, 7 May (Department of Peace Operations) — The United Nations has announced that Major Ahlem Douzi, who serves as a justice officer with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), will receive the second United Nations Trailblazer Award for Women Justice and Corrections Officers.

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that Belize, Jamaica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have eliminated mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.
