Organization matters

Working for the United Nations became more hazardous last year, with at least 58 persons losing their life in deliberate attacks.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations held its twenty-fourth session from 10 to 13 December.

“United Nations personnel serve in an increasingly dangerous environment and encounter a variety of threats not previously encountered in the history of the Organization,” United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says in a report to the General Assembly released today.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations held its twenty-third session from 1-3 July 2013. The session, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, J. Christopher Mihm. All the other members of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee, namely Vadim V. Dubinkin (Vice Chairman), Vinod Rai, John F. S. Muwanga and Adrian P. Strachan, were in attendance.

After a long and intense journey, the Umoja design and build phases are coming to fruition. Umoja (Foundation) was completed within the schedule, budget and functionality approved by General Assembly resolution 67/246. Today, Umoja went live with a pilot deployment at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL).

The session, which was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, J. Christopher Mihm. All the other members of the IAAC, namely, Vadim V. Dubinkin (Vice-Chairman), Vinod Rai, John F. S. Muwanga and Adrian P. Strachan, were in attendance.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations held its twenty-first session from 4 to 6 February 2013.

At least 26 United Nations personnel — 9 civilians and 17 peacekeepers, 2 of them police officers — were killed in the line of duty during 2012, the United Nations Staff Union said today. One consultant and four helicopter crew members working for the Organization also lost their lives.

The session, which was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, was presided over by the Chairman, John F.S. Muwanga. All the other members of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee — namely Adrian P. Strachan (Vice-Chairman); Vadim V. Dubinkin; J. Christopher Mihm; and Vinod Rai — were in attendance.

The United Nations Board of Auditors, the independent external auditors of the United Nations and its funds and programmes, held its sixty-sixth regular session at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, from 24 to 25 July 2012.
