SIXTEENTH LAW OF SEA FELLOWSHIP AWARDED


NEW YORK, 13 December (Office of Legal Affairs) -- The Legal Counsel of the United Nations, acting on the recommendation of an expert advisory panel, has made two awards under the Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Memorial Fellowship on the Law of the Sea, the regular sixteenth award to Kamran Hashemi of Iran and a second, funded by a special grant from the United Kingdom, to Boris Danailov of Bulgaria.

INTERNATIONAL SEABED AUTHORITY TO BEGIN WORK NEXT YEAR


ON POLYMETALLIC SULPHIDES AND COBALT-RICH CRUSTS


      KINGSTON, 12 July -- The International Seabed Authority, looking for the first time at two recently discovered sources of valuable minerals in the deep oceans, has set a course for the first leg of its future work on the topic -– the main issue at its seventh session, held in Kingston from 2 to 13 July.

SEABED COUNCIL REACHES COMPROMISE ON FURTHER STUDY OF POLYMETALLIC
