Juan Carlos Brandt, Senior Associate Spokesman for the Secretary- General, began today's noon briefing by reading the following statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General:
A study on financial havens, banking secrecy and money-laundering was launched at a Headquarters press briefing this morning by Jean-Francois Thorny, Manager of the Global Programme against Money-laundering of the United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention.
The Serbian Government remained firmly committed to the serious and productive dialogue with leaders of ethnic Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija and it was determined to proceed with their meetings, Vladislav Jovanovic, Charge d'affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia told correspondents at a Headquarters press conference today.
Declaring that Iraq was suffering from the severest sanctions in human history, its Foreign Minister, Mohammed Said Al-Sahaf, said at a Headquarters briefing today that it was time for the United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) to work with Iraqi officials and the Security Council to quickly deem complete the process of eliminating Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
