Recent developments in several high-profile cases before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia were strong indications that its work was on track for completion by the end of 2017, although full cooperation with the court’s decisions and orders would be critical to ensuring grave crimes did not go unpunished, the Security Council heard today.

The Secretary-General spoke at the General Assembly high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS this morning, stressing that enormous progress had been made, and recalling that Millennium Development Goal 6 of halting and reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS had been met.  However, he warned that AIDS was far from over.

The General Assembly today opened a three-day high-level meeting on ending AIDS with the adoption, without a vote, of a Political Declaration calling for urgent action and intensified efforts to ensure that the global response to HIV and AIDS left no one behind.

UNHCR says an estimated 50,000 people have fled their homes in south-east Niger since last Friday following a series of attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on the town of Bosso in the troubled Diffa region.  The agency says the attacks occurred on Friday, Sunday and Monday, and that the situation in Bosso is unclear.
