Concerned by Reports of Violent Clashes in Papua New Guinea, Secretary-General Calls for Calm

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General is concerned by reports of violent clashes between students and police in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.  He calls for calm and stresses the importance of respect for peaceful protest and freedom of assembly, and a commitment to rule of law, dialogue and non-violence.
