Economic and Social Council Adopts Nine Draft Texts Tackling Advancement of Women, Social Development, Non-Communicable Diseases

The Economic and Social Council today adopted seven draft resolutions, two by recorded vote, and two draft decisions, as it addressed the advancement of women, social development and non-communicable diseases on the second day of its coordination and management meeting.

In a Security Council open debate today, the Secretary-General stressed that sexual violence in conflict was used as a deliberate strategy to shred the fabric of society.  He urged the international community to continue speaking up for the women, girls, men and boys whose bodies for too long were considered the spoils of war.

Review Conference on Saving World’s Fish Stocks Concludes with Adoption of Robust Draft Outcome

NEW YORK, 2 June (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea) — At the end of five days of intense discussions and negotiations, the Review Conference for the landmark 1995 United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement, on Friday, 27 May, adopted a robust set of recommendations aimed at improving the conservation and management of some of the world’s most commercially important fish stocks, through the improved implementation of the Agreement.
