Urges Alliance to Turn Tide in Fight against AIDS


The United Nations is set to mobilize a greatly intensified global response to the AIDS epidemic when it holds a special session on HIV/AIDS from 25 to 27 June in New York.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan departed New York on Monday morning, 11 June, to begin a Middle Eastern trip aimed at pressing the Palestinians and the Israelis to implement the recommendations of the Mitchell Commission, which would eventually mean a return to the negotiating table.

SECURITY COUNCIL VISITS KOSOVO


PRISTINA, 17 June -- The Security Council -- on the first-ever mission of all 15 members -- completed a two-day visit to Kosovo with an appeal to both Kosovo Albanian and Kosovo Serb leaders to shun extremism and commit all efforts to building a multi-ethnic society.
