Renewing political commitments for sustainable development and launching new initiatives to reduce poverty and social inequities while promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability will be at the heart of deliberations at Rio+20 — the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development – to be held 20-22 June in Rio de Janeiro.

Following is the text of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s video message to “Rio+Social” in Rio de Janeiro, 19 June:

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will open a photo exhibition entitled “In Search of Solidarity: The State of the World’s Refugees 2012” in the main gallery of the Visitors Lobby on Wednesday, 20 June, at 6 p.m. It will be on display through 7 August.

The United Nations Forum on Forests Secretariat, in partnership with the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, has launched a new global multimedia initiative that will highlight the relationship between people and forests at the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development.

On 21-22 June 2012, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, through its Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) will convene a Round Table on Combating Illicit Trafficking in Small Arms and Light Weapons through Strengthened Border Controls. The Round Table will be held in collaboration with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, and with the support of Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
