It was imperative that a comprehensive nuclear test-ban treaty be concluded by 1996, the date to which all the nuclear-weapon Powers had committed themselves, Luvsangiin Erdenechuluun (Mongolia) said this morning, as the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) began its general debate.

The United Nations system had agreed last week on a process for strengthening its commitment to the goals established at the 1995 World Social Summit in Copenhagen, the Third Committee (Social Humanitarian and Cultural) was told this afternoon, as it continued its discussion of social development questions.
