The thirty-fourth annual session of the Committee on Information, the intergovernmental body charged with reviewing progress in the field of United Nations public information, will take place at Headquarters from 23 April to 4 May.
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene the United Nations International Meeting on the Question of Palestine on 3 and 4 April at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The theme of the Meeting is “The question of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention facilities: legal and political implications”.
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene the United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People, in Cairo, Egypt, at the Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah, on 6 and 7 February. The theme of the Seminar is “The economic cost of continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territory: local, regional and international efforts towards mitigating it”.

After months of collecting inputs and suggestions from countries, regional groups, civil society organizations and international organizations, United Nations Member States will meet 15‑16 December to discuss the structure and format of the outcome document that will be finalized by world leaders at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development — Rio+20 — to be held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012.
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting in observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, in Conference Room 2, North Lawn Building, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, 29 November, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 32/40 B of 2 December 1977.
The United Nations will convene a High-Level Meeting on Tuesday, 20 September, to focus on actions aimed at protecting drylands, home to 2 billion people, as productive lands in dry regions around the world are increasingly threatened due to poor land-management practices and climate change.
Hernán Salinas Burgos, Director of Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, was elected Chair of the Sixth Committee (Legal) on 22 June 2011.
