NAIROBI, 1 July — The first plenary session of the United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People, taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, began with a presentation by Maria-Jose Torres-Macho, Deputy Head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

NAIROBI, 1 July — The United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People opened in Nairobi today, under the theme “Fostering Active International Solidarity with the Palestinians: Solidifying the Economic Underpinnings of an Independent State”.

The Bureau of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People issued the following statement today:

The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene the United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the Palestinian People at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya, on 1 and 2 July, under the theme “Fostering Active International Solidarity with the Palestinians: Solidifying the Economic Underpinnings of an Independent State”.

The United Nations Peacebuilding Fund expects to receive $73 million in contributions this year, after more than 20 donors earlier reaffirmed multi-year commitments and made new pledges at the fourth annual High-level Stakeholders Meeting of the Fund, held in New York today.

The Bureau of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People issued the following statement today:

ANKARA, 13 May — The International Meeting held a discussion this afternoon on the international community’s role in promoting a just solution, examining the question of Jerusalem in relation to permanent status negotiations, international approaches to that issue, and the role of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, other international organizations and non-State actors.

The International Meeting on the Question of Jerusalem this morning, on its second day, heard from experts and discussed the current situation in Jerusalem, including measures taken by Israel, land expropriation and settlements, as well as social and economic issues.

The International Meeting on the Question of Jerusalem, which opened in Ankara, Turkey, earlier today, continued its discussion on the status of Jerusalem under international law this afternoon.
