MAJOR-GENERAL RAJENDER SINGH APPOINTED FORCE COMMANDER


OF UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA


The Secretary-General has appointed Major-General Rajender Singh of India as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).  The Major-General is expected to arrive in the Mission area by 19 July 2004.

Secretary-General appoints jan pronk special representative for sudan


The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Jan Pronk as his Special Representative for the Sudan and head of the peace support operation that may be authorized following a Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Government of the Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army.  The appointment is effective 18 June 2004.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JAVIER RUPEREZ OF SPAIN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


OF COUNTER-TERRORISM EXECUTIVE DIRECTORATE


Following consultations with the Security Council, the Secretary-General announced the appointment of Javier Rupérez as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate at the Assistant Secretary-General level.  The Security Council, by its resolution 1535, established the post.

Secretary-General names Advisory Board on Water AND Sanitation


United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has used this year’s observance of World Water Day to announce the establishment of an Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, to galvanize global action on these issues, which are central to the world’s hopes of eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development.
