SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS LOUIS FREDERICK REUTER, IV, (FRITZ) OF UNITED STATES


ASSISTANT SECRETARY-GENERAL - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CAPITAL MASTER PLAN


United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of Louis Frederick Reuter, IV, (Fritz) as Assistant Secretary-General - Executive Director of the Capital Master Plan.


Mr. Reuter served until 2001 as the Executive Vice-President - Administration for the New YorkPresbyterianHospital, where during a 13-year appointment he was responsible for the rebuilding of the New YorkWeillCornellMedicalCenter in a $1 billion project over the East River Drive in Manhattan.  Mr. Reuter was also director of the merger of the New YorkHospital and the ColumbiaPresbyterianHospital in New York.  During his tenure at New YorkHospital, Mr. Reuter acted as the President of the Royal Charter Companies, a number of non-profit housing, parking and real estate holding companies in Manhattan and WestchesterCounty.  From 2001 until now, Mr. Reuter has been active in a variety of consulting assignments including one as a senior strategic consultant to PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, during an on-site project for the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.


Earlier in his career, Mr. Reuter played principal roles in a number of architectural and health-care consulting firms and has had extensive planning and project development experience in the United States, the Middle East and South America.  Mr. Reuter has taught courses in health planning and organization at The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and continues to teach courses in large project management and real estate at Pratt Institute and New York University.


Mr. Reuter holds a Masters Degree in architecture from Washington University School of Architecture in St. Louis, United States, and in 1997 was named a Distinguished Alumnus of that school.  He is the recipient of many awards for the New York Hospital Project.  He is also the author of numerous articles on the design, planning and implementation of major building and health facility projects, and is a registered architect in New York and other States.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects 


Mr. Reuter was born in 1944.  He is married with one daughter.
