In Libya, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that, five weeks after Storm Daniel brought catastrophic flooding to the country’s north-east, more than 43,000 people are still displaced.

On 10 October 2023, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic received a briefing from Virginia Gamba, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.

The Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide expressed concern over the ongoing situation in the South Caucasus, in which it is reported that tens of thousands of ethnic Armenians have left the area for Armenia in the span of just a few days. All efforts must be made to ensure their protection and human rights.

On 29 August 2023, the Coordinator and members of the Panel of Experts briefed the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic on the Panel’s progress update submitted in pursuance of paragraph 7 of resolution 2648 (2022).

In Costa Rica, Resident Coordinator Allegra Baiocchi and the UN Team launched a new guide addressing online hate speech against women in politics, ahead of the country’s local elections scheduled to take place in February 2024. Online hate crime specifically targeting women jumped 72 per cent in the past year.

The Head of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) today called for renewed efforts and commitments to resolving the fate of the victims of enforced disappearances.

In Niger, the United Nations, along with its partners, continues to deliver assistance across the country. In Tahoua, in the country’s south-west, humanitarians have provided medical care, reproductive health services and nutrition to over 1,000 people through mobile clinics.

According to the World Food Programme, some 7.3 million food-insecure people could see their situation worsen due to the unfolding crisis in Niger. Humanitarian exemptions to sanctions and border closures are required to avert a rapid deterioration of the food security and malnutrition situation.

On 24 July 2023, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2127 (2013) concerning the Central African Republic heard a briefing from Harold Adlai Agyeman, Chair of the Committee, in connection with the report of his visit to the Central African Republic from 6 to 9 June 2023.

In Lebanon, after a week-long suspension of services in Ein el Hilweh camp due to armed clashes, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has resumed operations. Health Centre II reopened today. UNRWA is also preparing to assess and clear remnants of war from affected zones.
