In Nigeria, the UN, its humanitarian assistance partners and the Government have launched a $306 million appeal to support 2.8 million people in the country’s north-east — comprising the states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe — where some 4.8 million people are facing food insecurity, the highest level in seven years.

On Friday, 5 May, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Bujumbura, Burundi, from Kenya, to take part in the eleventh high-level meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the region.

The United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic, in its ongoing support to the Government and the national disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and repatriation process, recently donated vehicles and office equipment to help build the third mobile team conducting disarmament and demobilization operations.

The Secretary-General has extended the mandate of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon from 1 March until 31 December to complete non-judicial residual functions and ensure its orderly closure. Mandated to conduct the trials of those accused of carrying out the 14 February 2005 attacks in Beirut, its work is coming to an end.
