SECURITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZES 4,200 TROOPS FOR ETHIOPIA-ERITREA MISSION ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1320 (2000) UNANIMOUSLY

The Security Council this morning authorized the deployment of up to 4,200 troops, including 220 military observers, for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). It also mandated the mission until March 2001.

SECURITY COUNCIL ADOPTS REPORT TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY

This afternoon, the Security Council adopted its fifty-fifth annual report to the General Assembly, which covers the period 16 June 1999 to 15 June 2000. The report, a guide to the Council's activities during that 12-month period, will be submitted to the Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the United Nations Charter.
