Security Council


Terrorism and cross-border crime in Africa would be a major focus at the Security Council in December as the body continued to closely watch a range of crises worldwide, the Permanent Representative of Chad, whose delegation holds the Council presidency for the month, said this afternoon.

On 26 November, at its second formal meeting, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2140 (2014) continued its dialogue with the representatives to the United Nations of Yemen and the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) — namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) until 30 May 2015, authorizing it to use “all necessary means” to carry out its civilian protection, human rights and humanitarian assistance duties, and to support the 2014 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the new Government and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).
