NEW YORK, 20 June (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea) ― The twenty-seventh Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea was held at United Nations Headquarters from 12 to 15 June, finishing its work one day early.
The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf held its forty-third session at United Nations Headquarters from 30 January to 17 March.
In a push to dislodge entrenched positions around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Security Council ended 2016 by adopting the first of its resolutions in more than three decades to target settlements, capping a year of intermittent divisions and contentious debate over how and even whether to intervene in the world’s fiercest conflicts, from Syria and Yemen in the Middle East to the Central African Republic, Mali and South Sudan in Africa.

NEW YORK, 2 June (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea) — At the end of five days of intense discussions and negotiations, the Review Conference for the landmark 1995 United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement, on Friday, 27 May, adopted a robust set of recommendations aimed at improving the conservation and management of some of the world’s most commercially important fish stocks, through the improved implementation of the Agreement.
