DSG/SM/41
9 December 1998
(Received from a spokesman travelling with the Secretary-General.)
This is the text of an address today by Deputy Secretary-General Louise Fréchette to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Overseas Development in London:
The United Nations Pension Fund would make payments to divorced surviving spouses, according to the terms of a nine-part draft resolution approved without a vote this morning by the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary).
The Secretary-General was shocked to hear news reports that four foreign hostages were found decapitated in Chechnya, a region where kidnappings have become common.
