ADMINISTRATIVE AND BUDGETARY COMMITTEE ELECTS OFFICERS, APPROVES PROGRAMME OF WORK

The Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) this afternoon elected Ahmed H. Darwish (Egypt), Amjad B. Sial (Pakistan) and Judith Maria Cardoze (Panama) as its Vice Chairmen, and Jan Jaremczuk (Poland) as its Rapporteur. The Committee Chairman, Penny A. Wensley (Australia), was elected on 14 September.

IVO PETROV APPOINTED SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR TAJIKISTAN

Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today the appointment of Ambassador Ivo Petrov of Bulgaria with effect from 20 September 1999, to succeed Jan Kubis as Special Representative for Tajikistan. Mr. Kubis relinquished his post on 21 June 1999 to become Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

THE HAGUE, 16 September (ICJ) -- The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has fixed time-limits for the filing of written pleadings in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Croatia v. Yugoslavia).
