ELEVEN NEW MEMBERS ELECTED TO IAEA BOARD OF GOVERNERS

VIENNA, 30 September (IAEA) -- The forty-third regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has elected 11 member States to the IAEA Board of Governors, the 35- member policy-making body.

The 11 member States newly elected to the Board are: Algeria, Austria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Finland, Indonesia, Nigeria, Poland, Republic of Korea, Syrian Arab Republic.

The other 24 Member States of the Board which have either been designated by the Board of Governors or elected by the General Conference are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Jordan, Norway, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Sudan, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay.

The newly-constituted Board will convene on 4 October, following the conclusion of the General Conference, to elect the Board Chairman and Vice-Chairmen for the period 1999–2000.
