NAIROBI, 15 September (UNEP) - Today, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launches its Global Environment Outlook 2000 (GEO-2000) report -- the most authoritative assessment ever of the environmental crisis facing humanity in the new millennium.
UN Security Service to Meet with Delegations
Delegations were assured this morning that everything would be done to minimize disruptions during the fifty-fourth General Assembly session as the Committee on Relations with the Host Country met to discuss security arrangements for the general debate.
Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter, the Security Council early this morning authorized the establishment of a multinational force under a unified command structure to restore peace and security in East Timor, to protect and support the United Nations Mission in East Timor (UNAMET) and to facilitate humanitarian assistance operations there.
