EXPERTS MEETING ON 10-YEAR PLAN FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION, PRODUCTION

TO BE HELD IN MARRAKECH, 16 – 19 JUNE


NEW YORK, 12 June -- Over 100 participants from about 70 countries will meet on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, to take the first steps towards implementing one of the key commitments made by world leaders at the 2002 Johannesburg Summit:  to develop a 10-year framework of programmes for sustainable consumption and production.

UNFPA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SUPPLIES ARRIVE IN BAGHDAD

NEW YORK, 11 June (UNFPA) –- A new shipment of emergency reproductive health supplies, intended to meet the urgent needs of Iraqi women, arrived in Baghdad on 9 June.  The supplies, provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), were dispatched on a UNFPA/United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) convoy that crossed the border from the Iranian city of Kermanshah.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS CYPRUS FORCE UNTIL 15 DECEMBER,

UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1486 (2003)


The Security Council this morning extended the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) until 15 December, noting the Government of Cyprus had agreed that its continued presence was necessary, in view of the prevailing conditions on the island.

The Secretary-General travelled to Washington, D.C. in the morning of Wednesday, 11 June, where he met with United States Secretary of State Colin Powell for a private working lunch, at which they discussed the Middle East and Iraq, operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia and Myanmar.
