NEW YORK, 23 March (DESA) -- Virtually all population growth from now until 2030 will be concentrated in the urban areas of the world. By 2007, the number of urban dwellers is also expected to exceed the number of rural dwellers for the first time in history.

UN POPULATION FUND WELCOMES RESTORATION OF UNITED STATES FUNDING IN 2000

NEW YORK, 23 November (UNFPA) -- The United States will resume its support for the United Nations Population Fund for fiscal year 2000, which began on 1 October. The UNFPA received no United States funds in fiscal year 1999. Under foreign assistance legislation approved last week, funding will be restored to the fiscal year 1998 level of $25 million.

UN POPULATION FUND SENDS MATERNAL HEALTH SUPPLIES TO ORISSA CYCLONE VICTIMS, IN RESPONSE TO GOVERNMENT APPEAL

NEW YORK, 15 November (UNFPA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is shipping emergency reproductive health supplies, including equipment for the safe delivery of newborn infants, to victims of the cyclone in Orissa, India. The Fund is responding to a request for help from the state government of Orissa.
