UN POPULATION FUND WELCOMES RESTORATION OF UNITED STATES FUNDING IN 2000

NEW YORK, 23 November (UNFPA) -- The United States will resume its support for the United Nations Population Fund for fiscal year 2000, which began on 1 October. The UNFPA received no United States funds in fiscal year 1999. Under foreign assistance legislation approved last week, funding will be restored to the fiscal year 1998 level of $25 million.

UN POPULATION FUND SENDS MATERNAL HEALTH SUPPLIES TO ORISSA CYCLONE VICTIMS, IN RESPONSE TO GOVERNMENT APPEAL

NEW YORK, 15 November (UNFPA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is shipping emergency reproductive health supplies, including equipment for the safe delivery of newborn infants, to victims of the cyclone in Orissa, India. The Fund is responding to a request for help from the state government of Orissa.

NEW YORK, 16 November (UNFPA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is distributing emergency home delivery kits to mothers in East Timor, where representatives say there is little or no maternity care currently available. The Fund is also providing delivery supplies to local clinics and hospitals.
