United Nations Day will be observed this year at Headquarters with a concert to be held this evening, Friday 23 October, in the General Assembly Hall, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The world premiere of the Walt Disney animated film, "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure", will take place on Sunday, 25 October, at 3 p.m., in the Trusteeship Council Chamber. Prior to the screening, Kiyo Akasaka, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, will name Tinker Bell the “Honorary Ambassador of Green” to help promote environmental awareness among children.

Stars of the ABC television comedy series Ugly Betty will join representatives from the United Nations and the United Nations Foundation’s “Nothing But Nets” campaign at a press conference on Thursday, 8 October 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at United Nations Headquarters (Room 226) to discuss how the cast and crew of the show are starting the new season by helping to raise awareness about malaria.
On Friday, 18 September, the United Nations Department of Public Information will hold the twelfth student observance of the International Day of Peace under the theme “Disarm Now for a Better World”, in line with the Secretary-General’s “We Must Disarm” campaign.
