The world premiere of the Walt Disney animated film, "Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure", will take place on Sunday, 25 October, at 3 p.m., in the Trusteeship Council Chamber. Prior to the screening, Kiyo Akasaka, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, will name Tinker Bell the “Honorary Ambassador of Green” to help promote environmental awareness among children.

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs will kick off a three-part series of special events on climate change, beginning tomorrow, 13 October, with a focus on the state of the climate change negotiations, followed in the two succeeding weeks by events on the impacts and threats of climate change, and the opportunities for “green” growth.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is sponsoring a major exhibit on violence against women to be opened on Monday, 12 October, at a ceremony to be attended by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and other senior United Nations officials and delegations. The ceremony also marks the fifteenth anniversary of International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, and will allow a full-day session of the General Assembly commemorating the anniversary.

Tomorrow, 8 October, an event to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York to seek new ways to strengthen older persons’ involvement in global efforts to improve their quality of life, and to harness the social and economic opportunities that ageing offers.

Stars of the ABC television comedy series Ugly Betty will join representatives from the United Nations and the United Nations Foundation’s “Nothing But Nets” campaign at a press conference on Thursday, 8 October 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at United Nations Headquarters (Room 226) to discuss how the cast and crew of the show are starting the new season by helping to raise awareness about malaria.
