Photo Exhibit Marks Ninetieth Anniversary of International Labour Organization

 

A photography exhibition entitled “Working for Social Justice” opens in the Main Gallery of the Visitors Lobby on Thursday, 29 October 2009 at 6 p.m.

Statements at the opening will be delivered by Juan Somavia, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations.

The exhibition, which coincides with the ninetieth Anniversary of the ILO, will highlight the efforts of the international community to promote rights at work and social justice for universal and lasting peace.  The exhibit emphasizes the contributions to the world of work that have been made by the ILO, one of the oldest institutions of the United Nations system.  The ILO was created in 1919 by the Treaty of Versailles to promote social progress and overcome social and economic conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.

This exhibition is sponsored by the ILO and the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations.
