The Secretary-General, at a plenary meeting of the World Economic Summit, said this is the first generation that can end poverty and the last that can take steps to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Future generations, he added, “will judge us harshly if we fail in upholding our moral and historical responsibilities”.
The General Assembly held an informal meeting today to discuss concerns about the rise in anti-Semitism worldwide. Speaking to Member States by video message, the Secretary-General said that a United Nations that wants to be true to its founding aims and ideals has a duty to speak out against anti-Semitism.
Presenting Ebola response requirements in Davos today, senior United Nations officials said the needs for the first six months of 2015 amount to $1.5 billion.
