The sixty-fourth annual Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) affiliated with the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) has attracted an unprecedented number of registered participants from more than 100 countries and territories. With more than 2,200 registered participants from hundreds of organizations around the world expected in Bonn, Germany, from 3 to 5 September, the Conference has set a new attendance record for DPI/NGO conferences.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) gearing up for the sixty-forth annual United Nations DPI/NGO meeting in Bonn, Germany, have chosen sustainable development and volunteerism as their major topics of discussion. The meeting, which will take place from 3-5 September, has as its theme, “Sustainable Societies: Responsive Citizens”.

Amid broad agreement that profound disparities in health and life expectancy between the citizens of developed and developing nations were wide and entrenched, a distinguished panel today debated the equity of the Millennium Development Goals for the poorest and most marginalized in society, as the sixty-third annual DPI/NGO Conference entered its second day.

Broad agreement emerged this afternoon during a round table discussion at the Australia DPI/NGO Conference that non-governmental organizations were uniquely positioned to confront the intractable challenges to global health; but while they increasingly filled gaps around the world, they could not fill those alone.
