Ngo Quang Xuan, the new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, this afternoon presented his credentials to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

Mr. Ngo has been the Acting Permanent Representative since last year, following his appointment in 1993 as Viet Nam's Ambassador to the United Nations.

JEAN-MARIE KACOU GERVAIS OF COTE D'IVOIRE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

19960125 Biographical Note Jean-Marie Kacou Gervais, Permanent Representative of Côte d'Ivoire to the United Nations, was today elected President of the Economic and Social Council for 1996.

Mr. Gervais, who has been serving as his country's Permanent Representative since 1992, was a Vice-President of the Council in 1995.

GENEVA, 23 January (UN Information Service) -- The Conference on Disarmament today heard appeals for the rapid conclusion of a comprehensive nuclear test-ban treaty by June 1996 and reestablished its Ad Hoc Committee on a Nuclear-Test Ban, as it began the first part of its 1996 session.
